JROTC held its annual end of the year awards ceremony in the SHS gymnasium Thursday, April 19, at 6:00 p.m. The ceremony is a way for JROTC to acknowledge seniors and remarkable cadets in the program.

An award was given to the student with the highest GPA in JROTC. Senior, Jadrian Lofing, won the Distinguished Cadet Scholastic Excellence award with the GPA of 4.50.

“Winning has shown me that my hard work can pay off,” Lofing said.

According to Lofing, she lives fearless to pursue what sets her soul on fire. She is not afraid to chase her dreams.

Seniors in the program were recognized with a certificate and medal. Seniors recognized were: Diovyon Calmese- Walker, Alexis Gibson, James Hall, Jaden Hill, Shaniyah Jackson, Samuel Kim, Jadrian Lofing, Dynisha McClain, and Tyra Simpson.

“It always begins and ends in your mind. What you give power to, has power over you if you allow it,” Hill said.

The superior cadet award is given to the cadets with outstanding leadership characteristics and great etiquette. Joseph Forrester, Zykeria Johnson, Jeffrey Collins, and Shaniyah Jackson were recipients of the superior cadet award.

“Knowing that I won an award because of good leadership makes me so happy I’m in the program,” Johnson said.
