Starkville High School welcomed alumni back at the Friday night football game vs. Provine. This was the first year the SOCSD has done a halftime recognition. The alums were escorted onto the field by decade and recognized accordingly.

“I think Starkville High School alumni night was a good idea because it allowed us to meet the players and coaches that built the foundation that we play on today.” Senior Cheerleader Katherine Dumas said.

The alumni homecoming was a chance for the former Yellow Jackets to come back and see what has changed since their time at SHS. The high schools recognized included Starkville, Henderson, Alexander, B.L. Moor, Sturgis, and Maben.

“The purpose of the alumni recognitions was to recognize former football players, football coaches, and cheerleaders on their dedicated services to the SOCSD,” Athletic Director, Cheyenne Trussell said.

The decades that attended the event date back as far as the 1940’s. The decades then went to the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 2000’s. Once the alums were presented, the football players greeted them on the field and thanked them for their past service.

“Once I graduate from SHS the thing I will remember most is our amazing football team playing on Friday night and the excitement it brings,” Sophomore cheerleader Adriana Mays said.

The SOCSD provided refreshments before the game for the alumni to reconnect with former classmates. The alums were given t-shirts from the Starkville Oktibbeha consolidated school district to wear during the walk out on the field.

“If I ever get the chance to come back and visit SHS I would love to see how many things have changed around the school and with athletics,” Mays said.

The Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District plans on having the same event next year. The school district collected information at the Friday night game to keep the alums engaged in SOCSD events and updates.
