Seniors honored during football game
October 30, 2018
The Yellow Jacket Football team hosted the Warren Central Vikings this past Friday. Since this is the last home game, it is a Starkville High tradition to honor senior football players, cheerleaders and band members.
Prior to kickoff, senior cheerleaders and football players were recognized for their achievements. Family members were present to walk out onto the field with athletes as the students’ accomplishments in high school were read.
Underclassmen members of the cheer team presented flowers to senior cheerleaders and their families accompanied them onto the field.
Senior Cheerleader, Katherine Dumas has been cheering for the Starkville Yellow Jackets for seven years.
“Cheering for the Yellow Jackets has been a big part of my life while attending Starkville High. Senior night meant so much to me because it was a perfect ending to this chapter in my life. However, I know that the friendships that I have made in cheer will continue,” Dumas said.
The families of football players showed support for their Jackets by coming decked out with posters and balloons.
Senior Football player, Dreke Clark recalls the memories made on the field.
“It felt good just knowing that this is my senior year and I gave it my all. My favorite parts about playing football for the Jackets are building a bond with my brothers, being able to get better day by day, playing in the toughest division in Mississippi and performing for the city I grew up in,” Clark said.
During halftime Senior band members were honored.
Senior clarinet player, Marshall Skelton reminisced about the friendships he made in band.
“It was bittersweet to be celebrated for senior night because I know I am going onto bigger and better things, but I will always cherish all of the memories and friends I made in band. My parents were proud of me being recognized for my accomplishments,” Skelton said.
Senior night became even more special because of the victory against Warren Central. The Jacket football team can use this win as motivation against the Clinton Arrows this Friday night.
