With a season ending loss to the Oxford Chargers, the Starkville Yellowjackets still continue to represent their school to make the 2019-20 season one to remember. Two Yellowjackets were selected to perform in the Mississippi versus Alabama Allstar game. The Mississippi versus Alabama game consists of the top prospects across each state.
Starkville High School senior football players Jaylan “Bopete” Ware and Tyrese Hopkins represent the Jackets in the game this past Saturday.

Ware had a total of 94 tackles with 27 solo tackles and astonishing pick-6 while averaging 6.7 tackles a game. Also, Ware had a total of five sacks and one forced fumble.

“The experience was great, met a lot of new people and we built new bonds that would last forever,” Ware said.

Moreover, Ware had to step out of his comfort zone changing from his usual position of defensive lineman to the opposite side of the ball as a tight end (TE).

“I adjusted well when they brought me in at TE, it was to get short yards and to pound the ball on Alabama,” added Ware.

Hopkins had a total of 92 tackles with 23 solo tackles while averaging 6.1 tackles tackles a game. Hopkins, also had four fumble recoveries with one interception.

“Playing with a different team but having the same goal as me made me think that we can make things happen,” Hopkins stated.

Hopkins blocked the game-tying field goal to allow Mississippi to win for the third year in a row.

“I knew someone had to step up on defense for the big stop so I told myself that I had to be a leader and take control of the game,” Hopkins said, “As soon as I blocked the field goal it felt great and I was happy to keep the trophy in Mississippi.”

Ware is undecided on where he will continue his athletic career, for he has 14 offers from a mixture of division 1 and junior college schools. Hopkins has narrowed his options down to Southern Miss, Jacksonville State, and East Mississippi Community College.
