STARKVILLE, Miss., February 17, 2020 — the Lady Jackets hosted round one of the Mississippi High School Activities Association North 6A playoffs defeating the Desoto Central Lady Jaguars with a final score of 67-53.
The Lady Jackets started off with an energetic momentum. During the first quarter they put up 30 points with the assistance of Junior Amaya Ford. Ford scored more than 20 points earlier this season in the victory over West Point, adding 46 against South Panola, 22 against Neshoba Central and 20 against Greenville.
“Even though last week was a tough week, we still need to continue to work together and communicate more and just become better at what we do,” Ford said.
In the second and third quarter Juniors Jada Odneal, ShakirreaTabb, Jakailyn Brown and Ladasha Clark worked together to drive to the goal. An impressive Lady Jacket team handled business in the fourth quarter increasing the gap by 14 points towin and advance to the second- round of the MHSAA North 6A Playoffs.
The Lady Jackets have a 15-11 overall streak and 3-3 in the district. Head coach Kristie Williams set a high standard for the girls against Desoto, and they showed their competitiveness offensively and defensively.
“We didn’t want this to be the end of the line, so an effort was totally there and we didn’t let down. And why fix what’s not broken, so we just kept our momentum and focused on everything that we needed to do.” Williams said.
The Lady Jackets will face the number 1 seed of Region two, Hernando High School Friday, February 21, at 6 p.m. on the road.
