Social media benefits relationships

Social media is an influential technology that people use all around the world. It is a way to connect and interact through the internet with people you may or may not know. Social media is beneficial to relationships.

Through social media, people can talk to each other across long distances. SHS sophomore Anna Potts said, “social media allows me to keep in touch with friends or family that I have less face to face contact with.” This can be used through direct messaging which is included in many social media apps. “WhatsApp” is one of these apps used specifically for messaging people, no matter the distance.

People can also use social media to see what is going on in other people’s lives. The Huffington Post writer Natahsa Koifman believes social media “offers opportunities for creating and maintaining relationships.” “With a few clicks, we’re able to share in others life experiences, be it old colleagues or friends from high school,” Koifman said in her article “Can Social Media Actually Benefit Relationships?” People can share what is going on in their lives through apps like Instagram, which allows people to post pictures for others to see.

Social media can help people find friends in their area. In a 2006 The Today Show interview, Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, said “I just figured it would be really cool if there was some website that I could go to that would tell me a bunch of information about my friends and the people around me.” Facebook uses the information users give to find people in their area that they or the people they follow may know. This can lead to meeting new people and making new friendships.

Social media is a great way to benefit relationships and stay in touch with others. It allows people to talk to one another, see what is going on in other’s lives, and allows people to find new friends and relationships.
