The Jackets faced the Germantown Mavericks Friday night at home in their last game of the regular season. The Jackets lost to the Mavericks 2-1.
Senior Domonique Bush scored the lone Jacket goal with ten minutes left in the first half.
Bush believes the Jackets should’ve won, but the team didn’t follow their original game plan.
“I feel like we should have won. We fought hard but didn’t execute at the end. If we would have stuck to our game of play, we for sure would have won,” Bush said.
Bush is upset that his last regular season game didn’t end with a win.
“Well, considering we lost, it was heartbreaking. Every senior wants to win [their] last game for memories so with us losing, [it] just breaks my heart,” Bush said.
Shortly after the Jackets scored their first and last goal of the night, the Mavericks scored two goals by the end of the first half. After halftime, neither team scored, resulting in the final score of 2-1.
Junior Griffin Davis is the goalkeeper for the Jackets and put up a good fight against the Mavericks. Davis blocked numerous attempts to score by the Mavericks.
“The loss against Germantown opened our eyes. We are…holding our teammates responsible for mistakes that we make and helping them learn from them,” Davis said.
Davis thinks the Jackets could take home the state champion title this year with some changes to the team’s routine and attitude.
“We realized that we are lucky to win the district. We are starting to take practices more seriously than practices earlier this year. We’re motivated by the fact that nobody takes soccer seriously, so we are trying to change the culture by winning a state championship, “Davis said.
The Jackets will compete in their first game of the playoffs next Tuesday, January 26 at home.
