STARKVILLE, Miss. (Nov. 2) –The Lady Jacket Soccer team played their season opener defeating Clarkdale 2-0.

Middle schooler Olivia Anderson scored the first goal of the Lady Jacket 2021 season in the second half.  Freshman Addison Davis scored the second goal of the game.

Junior Captain Julia McPherson believes the team has positive chemistry.

“I think the biggest strength on our team is the ability we have to build each other up and help each other out when we are confused or down on ourselves,” Mcpherson said.

Sophomore Veronica Dunne is excited for the season to get rolling.

“I think we have a good chance of being one of the top teams in the Mississippi league, especially because of Coach Rafa. He sets high standards for us and I think that is what will make us great this season,” Dunne said

The Lady Jackets practice twice a day, at 6 a.m. and during sixth block.

“We have been preparing for the season through our two-a-day sessions and by using our playbook to come up with different set pieces,” McPherson said.

Last season the Lady Jackets lost players that held starting positions, causing sets and lineup to start from square one.

“The previous senior class was a significant part of our team last year. Once they left it changed our whole dynamic as a team, and we sort of had to start from square one. It was a great loss but we just have to adapt to the changes and tread on,” Dunne Said.
